Farid Ahmed

I am a journalist and working for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). I am a Broadcast Journalist for the World Service and working mainly for Bengali language service.

Prior to BBC, I worked for ATN News, a 24-hr private television channel as its News Editor and Banglanews24.com.bd (a multimedia news portal) as Chief of News Operations.

Before returning to media, I was in the United Kingdom for a Masters degree in “International Journalism” from the University of Leeds. I was awarded Chevening Scholarship from the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

I also worked as the Public Relations Officer of the UNDP Bangladesh’s Police Reform Programme for two years. Before that, I worked as a Senior Correspondent for Bangladesh News 24 Hours (bdnews24.com), country’s first online news agency, for two years. My area of specialisation was on diplomatic affairs, politics and parliamentary issues.

Before joining the bdnews24.com, I worked as a Staff Correspondent for the United News of Bangladesh (UNB) – country’s major private news agency for seven years. I was attached to the Opposition Leader in Parliament Sheikh Hasina.

I am a Jefferson Fellow, which was awarded by the East West Center of the USA in 2006.

I have also achieved prestigious “UNICEF-PIB (Press Institute of Bangladesh) Award 2003” for feature writing.

I have contributed reports and analysis on energy issues to Energy & Power (country’s lone English language news fortnightly on energy sector), Dhaka Courier (popular English language weekly) and Shaptahik 2000 (a Bengali language weekly) and authored a number of investigative and interpretative reports, features and analyses.

I have co-authored a good number of research-based publications, mainly journalistic in nature, and the areas were diverse in nature.

As a journalist, I have covered assignments in UK, Belgium, New Delhi, Malaysia, Nepal and Japan.

I did my B.A. and M.A. from the Dept. of Mass Communication & Journalism, University of Dhaka.

My research interests are different branches of Government’s communications that include Public Diplomacy, Media-Military relations and Public Affairs.

Shameless self-projection is over!
